Pasifika Urban Roots (PUR) acknowledges the First Peoples of San Francisco, the Ramaytush Ohlone, as the original and continuing stewards of this land. As settlers on stolen land, we stand in solidarity against institutions and systems that oppress Indigenous peoples.Like the rose that grows through the concrete, the tenacious taro plant can transcend cracks in the asphalt despite the inequitable conditions it lives in. Sunshine through blue skies, clear air, and resilient roots sown and cared for by generations of community provide the possibilities and hope for taro to dream, persevere, and thrive. In the spirit of the taro’s tenacity, PUR builds space for Pasifika community to emerge through the pavement into taro patches and prosper in this concrete ocean that we call home, FRISCO!Pasifika Urban Roots (PUR) mission is to cultivate opportunities for Pacific Islander young people to embrace their identity and thrive in knowledge, health, and advocacy. PUR, a program of the Samoan Community Development Center (SCDC), is a Pacific Islander focused collaborative aiming to address the needs of the Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander (NHPI) community in San Francisco. PUR is funded by the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF).
